Entrepreneurship Evening: The Story of MYCITY.IO

Last week we had a great chance to welcome Dennis Kreminsky as a guest speaker for the LUTES Entrepreneurship Evening. The event was dedicated to the story about the team of inspiring entrepreneurs, who are running the project MYCITY.IO.

Dennis has been an entrepreneur for many years and runs his own business in Russia and Norway. He is also a team member and a CTO of My City project. So what is it that this team is so enthusiastic about? My City or MYCITY.IO is a crowdsourced urban planning platform, which represents a great tool for government employees and community activists to collect and deploy ideas on improving the city. It does not only bridge the authorities with city residents, but inspires people to take action right away and be happy about contributing to a great thing for society improvement. Most importantly, it requires seconds to create the idea in the system! The platform was also demonstrated during the presentation of Dennis and the interest of the event attendees in the project was obvious: numerous questions from the audience developed the discussion.

Dennis and a platform developed for Novosibirsk, Russia

During the last year the platform was successfully launched for several cities:

– Novosibirsk – http://novocitizen.ru
– Nizhny Novgorod – http://supergorky.com
– Murmansk – http://mymurmansk.com
– Suwalki (in Poland) – http://mysuwalki.com

Now we also have our own test platform for the city of Lappeenranta! It is a great chance for the voice of OUR city residents to be heard! Follow the link to leave your own improvement suggestions, which you might have in your mind!

Great! We have a platform for Lappeenranta now!

Moreover, some of the most active platforms have already had tangible results and with their help the local authorities have implemented some of the proposed improvements in Russia (mostly road related).

The idea was born, when Dennis attended the informative session in his home town, Murmansk, which was held by a Swedish architect. The architect was discussing various city development ideas and concrete improvements, which could be implemented in Murmansk. During the speech the architect was using one large city map, where he was marking the development ideas and connecting them with the specific places. Moreover, Dennis and other team members were very well aware of the complications related to making the city resident voices heard, when it comes to the implementation of the improvement ideas generated by population. The existing mechanisms are simply not known to the public and are also quite difficult to access. And this was an initial point of idea departure.

Business idea should be about improving the world and making the lives of people easier. Just look around!” – Dennis

The startup was also participating in Slush, the biggest startup conference in Helsinki, which took place in autumn 2013. Today the team members are moving the idea forward in Finland via participating in the business acceleration program run by HelsinkiVentures and NewCo Factory.

We wish Dennis and other team members of My City an exciting journey to a brilliant success!
